Pros and cons of Zen Brush app for iPhone and iPad

Zen Brush app good for

This APP is really great! It is as near to using a real chinese brush as possible. Im using a just mobile pen for it and next to writing caracters painting is a real pleasure. It would be great to see a better undo function in the future.
I love this app. It has been greatly enhanced by the recent upgrade. I keep it in my dock and use it to make quick sketches which I send to photos and then import into brushes or other apps to work up in color etc. It is so responsive and smooth.
This is a simple app thats ridiculously fun to use. Nothing fancy or special, its simply an app with lots of different backgrounds (e.g. Japanese paper or Metal) and different brush colours (you cant select colours for each background, for instance Metal + Yellow means a Yellow brush, Japanese paper is always in black). I also find it handy to use to sign my name and save it as an image to attach to PDF documents (I use PDF Expert for that). You can also use it to draw out quick diagrams, directions or other notes that cant be written down, or are just to illustrate something to someone on the fly. I have it on the iPod Touch and iPad (one app purchased for both), and when I am daydreaming I open the app to play around in it. Its oddly therapeutic. I do find the price a tad high. This is more of a $0.99 app, in my opinion.
This app is awesome, you can draw pictures, write words with a brush and save it in your photos when your done, you can also upload it to twitter. I rate it five stars. :) hope whoever downloads this has a great time using this app. There is also sizes for the brush, lighter strokes, and a eraser, different backgrounds. Good job. Enjoy :P - Person244 Thanks for reading my review!
The touch sensitivity is so awesome in this app, it almost like youre painting with your finger. get it now its great :)
This app is a work of art. If you dont draw/paint, or are just a doodler, this app will make you feel like a genuis. Much more so than any of the countless proceedural drawing apps out there. Its amazingly responsive, brilliant at staying out of your way, and incredibly intuitive to use. You will love this app. If you do fancy yourself as an aspiring artist you will not be disappointed with this one either. I have found nothing that even comes close to the level of intimacy that this app achieves. Not once did it get between what was in my head and what was showing up on the screen. The interface is so amazingly transparent as to be invisible. Its like a direct line from your creativity to the canvas. But as beautiful as the interface is, its the brush that really steals the show. Its amazingly responsive, expressive, and wonderfuly fluid. In short, its perfect. By far the most expressive digital brush Ive ever used. Its absolutely sublime. I know I sound like Im gushing, but it really is that good! It may come off as a toy, but make no mistake, you can make some serious art with this app. I almost feel guilty complaining about this app, but it wouldnt be an honest review if I didnt address its shortcomings. First off, know before you buy that this is a one trick pony. Its got one brush with 3 levels of opacity and 2 levels of erase, a size slider, and only one step of undo. And the color palette exists of only one color - black (but a full range of values is quite achievable). There is NO import. If you want to save a canvas to work on later while you jot down a quick idea, youre out of luck. Once you delete the current canvas you can no longer work on it. (Make sure you save a copy of it before you erase the screen.) Also, theres no zoom. So there you have it; the good, the bad, and the ugly. Make no mistake though - despite its shortcomings, its still a pure joy to use. I have a lot of high-end art apps on my iPad and iPhone, but this is the first one I turn to - even if its just for a quick warm-up. Its just so much fun to use, that I cant resist. They really did hit it out of the park with this one. Get it... You wont be disappointed! For the devs, heres the inevitable wish list: - a middle level of erase - an import (or at least a save/load) feature so I can work on more than one painting at a time - please dont change the brush - its absolutely perfect!

Some bad moments

"ALAssetsLibraryErrorDomain" when trying to save to photos. Doesnt seem to be a lot of activity on this app anymore. I give it a 2 now, because it doesnt work anymore. Advice? Avoid until the problem is addressed, or download Sketchbook Ink instead. The latter might be the safest bet, all in. Autodesk isnt going anywhere anytime soon.
Nice app. I like the smooth feel of the brush, however it should cost .99 cents and not $2.99 for what it offers. -You can only undo once -You cannot zoom in and out while drawing. This is very disappointing. This app needs a lot of work!
Please read all of the review - thanks I had this app before the update and I loved it. But when I tried to update it it said I had to purchase it all over again!! Also I have a lot of trouble getting to even that screen. Then I tried again and it finally worked I love this app even more now it is my favorite app. Oh by the way when it says blue there is a w on the end so it says bluew!!
This would be an amazing app if you could pinch to zoom in on the image. It would make doing fine details possible. Without a true, fine-tipped stylus, this is an essential feature for art related iOS apps. I think the Pogo Connect pressure settings should also be reversed. Right now, heavier pressure = thinner lines. This is the opposite of true brush behavior. Makes pressure sensitive styluses rather useless, in my opinion.
One thing I wish: For images exported to photos to be importable back to app to continue working on them. I love this app.
This is a first-rate app. I keep coming back to this one even while I also use more sophisticated art ones like Art Studio or Art Rage. I especially like the responsiveness to your finger touch and the ink quality. Its quick, very intuitive, and simple to use. Overall its perhaps the most pleasing app I use. Yes, there could be some useful improvements such as being able to alter the size of the canvas and store pictures where you could come back to work on them, and... and... Nevertheless I am delighted with it and feel much gratitude for it.
